Kolkata: People in a huge number thronged to road in order to protest against the SSC recruitment scam from College Square to Rani Rashmoni road in Kolkata on Thursday. The protest was called by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of West Bengal unit.
The BJP leaders gathered in the streets to carry a march to register their protest against ubiquitous corruption in the state.
This comes a day later the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducts several raids in and around Kolkata regarding the West Bengal School Staff Recruitment Scam. During the raid, cash in a large number was found from flat linked to Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of accused minister Partha Chatterjee.
Following the revelations, there are demands being raised to sack Partha Chatterjee who is currently holding the portfolio of Industry, Commerce and Enterprise Minister.
Chatterjee, who is known to be a loyalist of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, also holds the political office of General Secretary of West Bengal of the All India Trinamool Congress.
Few days earlier, the Chief Minister made a statement saying that if someone is guilty, they should be awarded punishment.
The statement cleared the Trinamool Congress’ stand in the case against Partha Chatterjee. As per media reports, Chatterjee may soon loose his position.
The ED carried out the raids a month later the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case in the teacher’s recruitment case. The CBI acted upon the Calcutta High Court’s directives.
