Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, said that he arrived in Kishtwar on Friday evening for his onward visit to Chasoti village in Kishtwar district on Saturday to take stock of the damage in the area. Abdullah further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured all help to the state government.

An instantaneous cloudburst led to flash floods in the remote mountain village of Kishtwar on Thursday leading to deaths of at least 60 people including two CISF personnel and trapping many people. Rescuers worked relentlessly and managed to dig out 167 people from under the mounds of debris. According to officials, there are 38 people who are still in a critical condition.
On Kishtwar flash flood, J&K CM Omar Abdullah says, “Around 60 bodies have been found. The number of missing persons is being assessed. After the rescue and relief operation concludes, we will inquire whether the Administration could have taken any preventive steps when the Met Department had issued a warning and also advised people not to venture out if not needed. The rescue operation by the Army, NDRF, SDRF, Police, and Administration is underway. Workers of different political parties are also working on the ground. The PM and Union Home Minister spoke to me and assured all possible help to us.”
