New Delhi: Thousands of farmers were gathered at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi to remind the Centre of its ‘forgotten’ promises that the latter made during the suspension of a year-long massive protest in November 2021.
The protesting farmers on Monday held a “Kisan Mahapanchayat” on a call given by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) for discussion on a number of issues.

SKM leader Hannan Mollah warned of another protest if the government will continue to ignore farmer’s demands and the ‘Mahapanchayat’ could be the start.
“The Mahapanchayat will be the beginning of the next round of nationwide protests,” he added.
In a list of demands, the farmers have asked a complete withdrawal of the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, which is likely to increase the power bills by 200-300%. The bill is being considered by the Parliamentary Standing Committee at present.
The SKM leader said the government had promised the farmers that they will consult with the respresentatives of the protestors on the Electricity (Amendment) Bill. However, he mentioned, that nobody has contacted them so far.
