Kin tracks missing grandmother through necklace’s hidden GPS in Mumbai — Here’s how much these trackers cost

A Mumbai grandson located his missing 79-year-old grandmother using a tiny GPS tracker hidden in her necklace.

A family in Mumbai has reunited with their missing grandmother in a uniquely modern way. Their 79-year-old granny, Saira Bi Tajuddin Mulla, was found safe after her grandson used a tiny GPS tracker he had quietly placed inside her necklace, a move that ended up saving the day.

Went missing during evening walk, found after accident

The incident took place on December 3 in South Mumbai. Saira Bi had stepped out for her usual evening walk but didn’t return home even late into the night. Worried and confused, her family began searching nearby areas.

What they didn’t know was that earlier in the evening, a two-wheeler had accidentally hit her in the Sewree area. Local residents immediately helped her and took her to a nearby hospital for treatment. Since the family had no information about the accident, they had no clue where she might be.

That’s when her grandson, Mohammed Wasim Ayub Mulla, remembered the small GPS device he had fixed inside her necklace. He had put it there as a precaution, never imagining it would actually be needed. The family hasn’t revealed the exact model or details of the tracker, but it worked exactly when it mattered.

GPS location points to KEM Hospital

Wasim quickly checked the GPS location and saw that it was showing KEM Hospital in Parel, just about 5 km from their home. Relieved but anxious, the family rushed to the hospital. There, they finally found Saira Bi, who was receiving medical care. She was later shifted to another hospital for further treatment.

The incident has sparked interest in mini GPS trackers, which are widely available online and in stores. Many work like Apple’s AirTag, which can help track items from thousands of kilometres away and costs around Rs 2799. For Android users, devices like JioTag Go, priced at Rs 999, can be attached to bags, vehicles, pets and in this case, helped track a loved one in need.
