Kollam, Kerala: Three people, including a Fire and Rescue officer, were killed early Monday in Kerala’s Neduvathur while trying to save a woman who had jumped into a well. The deceased fire officer, identified as 36-year-old Soni S Kumara, was a native of Attingal. She belonged to the Kottarakkara Fire and Rescue Unit.
Woman Jumps Into Well Following Assault
Archana (33), a local resident who worked as a home nurse, tried to end her life by jumping into the well. Shivakrishnan, her friend, in a bid to rescue her, also plunged into the well located in the courtyard of the house. Archana had been living with Shivakrishnan for the past two months. On Wednesday night, the latter allegedly returned home intoxicated and created a ruckus, following which Archana hid the remaining liquor in the house. An enraged Shivakrishnan allegedly assaulted her, leading to an altercation between the two.
Similar Incidents
In a similar incident that took place last month in September, a woman jumped into a well along with her daughter and died in Sinnar taluka, Maharashtra. The deceased mother was identified as 30-year-old Sonal Sanap. Police reached the spot and retrieved their bodies after receiving the information. In yet another incident that occurred in Kerala during July 2025, a woman jumped into a well along with her two children, aged four and six, in Kannur.
