Kerala was left in shock on Monday when a 23-year-old surrendered at a police station, confessing to killing six of his close ones. His chilling admission sent shockwaves across society. The accused claimed to have consumed rat poison. Of the six victims who were stabbed, five were brutally murdered. Since the accused had ingested rat poison, he was immediately shifted to the medical college, delaying a detailed interrogation.
The victims include Afan’s paternal grandmother, Salma Biwi (88); his younger brother, Afsan (13); his girlfriend, Farzana (19); his father’s brother, Latif; and Latif’s wife, Shahida. Afan’s mother, Shami, who was also attacked, is currently in the hospital with serious injuries.
Afan’s Confession On His Girl Friend’s Murder
According to Afan, he took the life of his girlfriend out of a twisted sense of fear and attachment. During police questioning, he reportedly admitted, “If I die, my lover will be alone,” suggesting he couldn’t bear the thought of leaving her behind.
Afan and Farsana’s love story began during their school days in Venjaramoodu. Farsana, a bright postgraduate student from a college in Anchal, was known for her academic excellence. The day she lost her life, she had simply told her family she was heading out for tuition—never to return.

Police reports reveal that he used a sharp weapon to attack her head, severely disfiguring her face. Investigators stated that Afan repeatedly struck her head with a hammer-like tool, inflicting deep wounds on both sides of her forehead and the center of her skull. Farsana’s name only became associated with the crime when news of the Venjaramoodu mass murder surfaced.
Her father, Sunil, was shattered upon hearing the heartbreaking news. Overcome with grief, he broke down, unable to process the loss of his beloved daughter. Relatives tried to console him as he arrived at the Venjaramoodu police station, but the weight of reality was too much to bear. Sunil, who works as a welder, stood there in disbelief, struggling to accept that his daughter was gone forever.
