A teacher allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself after allegedly denied salary for the last six years in Kozhikode, Kerala on Wednesday, said police.Aleena Benny, 30, who was employed at St. Joseph’s LP School in Kodenchery and was a member of the Thamarassery Diocese Corporate Management, was discovered hanging from the roof of her bedroom around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, according to The Indian Express.
Aleena did not attend school that day, and her cell phone was switched off. Due to her absence, the school authorities inquired with her father.Aleena’s family alleges that she took this drastic step due to the mental trauma caused by being deprived of her salary for six years.
Her family mentioned that she had deposited Rs 13 lakh with the management years ago for the position, but had not received a single rupee in salary.”She was initially appointed at Kattippara school, but another teacher returned to the position after making a claim for it. The matter was brought before the director of public instruction.
Subsequently, she was appointed to Kodenchery St. Joseph’s LP School by the corporate management, but she did not receive any payment because the management failed to obtain approval for her posting,” said Aleena’s father, Benny. He added that the management had not sent the necessary documents to the government in time.
The family alleges that she was forced to sign an undertaking stating that she did not require salary or benefits for her service at Kattippara school. A statement from her colleagues said that negligence and mismanagement by the education department authorities led to the non-approval of her appointment.
