Five cows died on a farm in Kerala after allegedly eating too much parotta. According to Onmanorama’s report, nine more cows are currently being treated.

Parotta or porotta is a flaky bread made from maida. Popular in many South Indian states, including Kerala, the puff pastry is made by pan-frying.

The cows that suffered from Parotta’s overconsumption belonged to a dairy farmer named Hasbulla, who has been raising cows for the past 20 years. Animal husbandry minister J Chinchurani visited his farm on Sunday and said the dairy farmer would be compensated.

Cows started falling on Saturday, after which rescue team officials visited the farm. According to the Department of Animal Welfare, the cause of death was considered to be stomach upset caused by excessive consumption of reindeer and jackfruit.

According to authorities, the cows died of “metabolic toxemia and dehydration following lactic acidosis” after eating too much parotta and jackfruit, according to the report.

After the recent rise in cattle prices, Hasbulla began feeding cows a mixture of parotta , jackfruit, and tamarind seeds. “Some amount was provided for the reindeer, but on the last day Hasbulla did not feed the cows,” the publication quoted officials as saying.

“If cows eat too much sorghum, jackfruit, or broken rice, it can cause lactic acidosis, which leads to dehydration and death. If the sorghum is old, there is a high chance of fungal diseases. Also, too much carbohydrate is not good. Ideally. , they should be fed concentrate, hay, and green fodder,” said D Shine Kumar, a cattle farmer in the area, under whose supervision the post-mortem examination was conducted.
