Kottayam, Kerala: A fresh and shocking ragging incident has come to light from a government College in Kerala, where a few junior students were allegedly subjected to brutal mental and physical torture by five third-year nursing students. According to NDTV reports, the first-year students were stripped naked, attacked with geometry box compasses, and brutally beaten for nearly three months. To make matters worse, dumbbells were even hung from their private parts.
The horrifying and violent incident started in Kottayam’s Government Nursing College in November last year and continued till January 2025. Three first-year students, hailing from Thiruvananthapuram filed a police complaint following which the five accused were arrested.
Reports further stated that the students were suspended and later booked under the Anti-Ragging Act. Police revealed that the juniors in context were forced to stand naked and let their senior hung dumbbells from their genitals. They were even stabbed with sharp objects from the geometry box.
What’s more terrifying is that lotions were put over the wounds, to make them suffer more pain. While the victims screamed in pain, the lotion was smeared into their mouths. The accused reportedly recorded the act and threatened the juniors with consequences if they tell anyone.

The complaint also claims that the seniors regularly extorted money from the juniors on Sundays to buy alcohol. Those who refused to comply were beaten. One student, unable to bear the harassment any longer, informed his father, who then encouraged him to approach the police.
All five are currently in police custody and are expected to be produced before a magistrate by Wednesday afternoon.
The incident comes weeks after a 15-year-old schoolboy in Kochi died by suicide. The student’s mother alleged that her son was bullied by students which pushed him towards his death.
