A 26-year-old postgraduate woman doctor allegedly died by suicide by injecting a high dose of anesthetic drugs at her flat in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, said police.
Cops recovered a suicide note from the spot, in which she mentioned that “everybody wants money only.” Prima facie, it came to light that her marriage was fixed with a doctor, and his family demanded a huge dowry, including a BMW car. The deceased’s family agreed to fulfill some of their demands, but the doctor’s family refused marriage.
Police said that the deceased, Shahana, was a postgraduate doctor at the surgery department in the Government Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram.

On Monday, she was scheduled to join the surgery department at the ICU of GMC.” When she did not reached ICU and her phone went unanswered, one of her friends approached her flat and found that the door was locked from inside. Despite several attempts, when she did not respond, cops were called and she was found lying unconscious inside her room after police broke open the door.” said police.
According to the police, she injected high-dose anesthetic drugs. During the investigation, it was revealed that her fiance’s family demanded gold, land, and a BMW car as dowry. When Shahana’s family members were not able to fulfill all of their demands, the doctor broke the marriage.
Kerala’s Health Minister Veena George also ordered a probe into the alleged suicide after dowry allegations came to fore. Women and Child Development was asked to submit a report after a probe.
