Kerala: The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Sunday expelled senior leader Simi Rosebell John following her shocking allegations that the Congress party operates a “casting couch” similar to that in the film industry. The party announced her expulsion from its primary membership, citing her comments as an insult to female leaders within the party.
Accusations of Exploitation
Rosebell, a Congress leader from Ernakulam, alleged that women within the party often face exploitation in order to secure positions. She accused several party leaders, including opposition leader VD Satheesan, of being involved in sexual harassment, claiming that women must “impress” male leaders to advance in the party, bypassing merit and experience.

Party’s Response
In response to these allegations, VD Satheesan dismissed them as baseless, stating that the party had always supported Rosebell, and she had even held positions within the All India Congress Committee (AICC). KPCC President K Sudhakaran also announced that the Manila Congress had filed a complaint against Rosebell and assured a thorough investigation into her claims.
Rosebell’s allegations have stirred significant controversy within the Kerala Congress, with party leaders strongly rejecting the accusations. The controversy within the Kerala Congress has flared up at a moment when the Malayalam film industry is also experiencing its own turmoil.
