New Delhi: Anil Antony, son of former Union Minister and Congress leader AK Antony, joined the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday.

Anil Antony, a former congress member from Kerala, left the party in January 2023 following the row over BBC’s documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots and PM Modi.

In a formal event, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, V Murlidharan and Kerala BJP chief K Surendran Welcomed the former Congress leader to BJP. 

Anil Antony was head of the social media cell of Congress in Kerala before he left the party. Anil called the BBC documentary “prejudiced against India”.

“Anil Antony is a multi-faceted personality. I was impressed when I saw the credentials of Anil Antony ji,” said Piyush Goyal. 

Anil’s father AK Antony had been defence minister in the Manmohan Singh government. he also served as Chief Minister of Kerala.
