Rudraprayag: A tragic landslide struck the Kedarnath trekking route near Gaurikund early this morning, resulting in the deaths of three pilgrims and injuries to another. The disaster control room received the distress call around 7:30 AM, alerting authorities to the situation.

District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar reported that debris and large boulders had fallen from the hill, trapping several pilgrims under the rubble. Promptly responding to the call, security personnel, including teams from NDRF, DDR, and local administration, arrived at the scene to conduct relief and rescue operations.

The rescue team managed to recover three bodies from the debris and rescued one injured individual. Efforts to search and rescue any remaining victims are still ongoing.
The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand posted an update on X, expressing deep sorrow over the news of casualties among pilgrims due to debris and large rocks falling from a hill near the Kedarnath trekking route. Relief and rescue operations are ongoing at the site, and I am in constant touch with the authorities regarding this matter. Instructions have been given to ensure prompt and effective medical treatment for the injured.
May God grant peace to the souls of the deceased and provide strength to the grieving families to endure this immense sorrow.
