The portals of Kedarnath Dham will be solemnly closed for winter on October 23, this year, the Shri Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) informed.
On November 25, at 2:56 PM, the portals of Badrinath Dham will be closed for the winter this year The Committee told ANI. The date for both Badrinath and Kedarnath Dhams, will be closed ceremonially, was announced on Vijayadashami.
An elaborate religious ceremony took place in the afternoon at Badrinath Temple, in order to determine the closure date of the temple. During the ceremony, the Dharmadhikari and vedic pundits arrived at the date based on panchang calculations in front of the BKTC officials.
The Rawal of Badrinath Dham then officially declared the date for the closure of the temple. The ceremonial turban (Pagdi) for Bhandar Seva in the next year of 2026, is also presented on the day.
According to a press release, on the same day, the date of the traditional Panch Pujas, which takes place every year before the closure, will be confirmed. The auspicious time (muhurat) will also be decided when Shri Uddhav Ji, Shri Kuber Ji will leave for Pandukeshwar, and the Adi Guru Shankaracharya’s Gaddi, and the vahan of Lord Vishnu ie. Shri Garud Ji will proceed to their winter seat at the Narsingh Temple, Jyotirmath.
On this date, simultaneously, at the Panch Kedar winter seat, the Omkareshwar Temple Ukhimath (Rudraprayag) the date of the closing of the second Kedar – Shri Madmaheshwar Ji’s portals will be decided. The date of the closing of the third Kedar – Shri Tungnath Ji’s portals would also be decided at Shri Markateshwar Temple, Makkumath (Rudraprayag).
Badrinath is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites where millions of devotees visit Lord Vishnu from all over the country every year. Kedarnath temple is also one of the Char Dham sites situated at curves around the Mandakini river banks and at the height of 3584 meters above sea level in Northern India.
