New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has suffered a major setback in Delhi. On Thursday, Kausar Jahan of the BJP was elected as the new chairman of the Delhi Hajj Committee. This is for the first time that after coming to power, AAP has lost control of the Delhi Hajj Committee.
Kausar Jahan is the second woman in the history of Delhi to hold this post. Former Delhi Congress chief Tajdar Babbar was the only woman that held this post till now. The committee members participated in the voting process to elect a new chairman. These included Mohammad Saad and former cricketer Gautam Gambhir who supported Jahan.

Kausar Jahan says PM Modi has fought for Muslim community
On being appointed as the chairman of the Delhi Hajj Committee, Kausar Jahan said that the appointment process for the post of chairman and formation of the committee has been prepared by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The selection was done keeping all the rules in mind the die is cast.
She said, “PM Modi’s government has fought for the rights of the Muslim community. Women are feeling safe after the ban on triple talaq. It is the responsibility of all of us to work to reduce the suffering of Hajj pilgrims.”

The Indian Muslims travel to the holy site of Mecca every year, which is coordinated by the Hajj Committee. Members of the Hajj committee included BJP MP Gautam Gambhir, two Aam Aadmi Party MLAs – Abdul Rehman and Haji Yunus, Congress councilor Nazia Danish, Muslim theology experts Mohammad Saad and Kausar Jahan.
