Kashmir has transformed into a winter wonderland, as fresh snowfall blanketed the region on Sunday. The Machil sector in Kupwara district experienced second round of snowfall, further enhancing the area’s picturesque beauty. Following the snowfall, a significant drop in temperature was recorded. As per reports, Gulmarg, Gurez, Karnah, Sonamarg and Pahalgham also received snowfall.

The snowfall has heightened the region’s scenic beauty and resulted in an increase in tourist numbers. Visuals from the area depict the entire sector covered in snow, offering a breathtaking sight for visitors.
Snowfall Disrupts Travel
While the snowfall enhanced the wintry scene and visual appeal of the region, it also caused some disruptions. Traffic was affected in areas including Gurez, Sinthan, and Mughal roads. These roads were closed to passenger movement, and officials advised tourists to avoid these routes until they were cleared and deemed safe for travel.
In addition, the authorities also cautioned visitors to stay updated and alert about road conditions before embarking on their journeys.
SDM Gulmarg Issues Winter Travel Advisory
Furthermore, SDM Gulmarg has issued travel advisory in view of upcoming winter on Sunday. The order read, “To prevent accidents and long-lasting traffic jams due to slippery roads which puts the commuters to much inconvenience, only 4×4 vehicles and those with anti-skid chains shall be allowed from Tangmarg to Gulmarg and vice versa till the thawing of the ice from the road.”
The order said that to prevent jams and breakdown of vehicles only LMVs with seating capacity not more than 10 seats shall be allowed to ply on Gulmarg Tangmarg Road.
“All tour operators and private vehicle owners are advised not to park their vehicles on the roadside; they should park only in designated parking spaces available at various spots in Tangmarg, the order added. It further stated that coat and boot vendors should not approach the roads to attract tourists to use their coats and boots, in order to avoid inconvenience to tourists and traffic jams.
Tourists Face Problem, Video Goes Viral
A video has gone viral on Instagram, showing people struggling due to snowfall that has resulted in slippery roads. Vehicles skidded on the icy roads, and people are seen sliding as well.

Himachal Pradesh Covered In Snow
Similarly, the scenic heights of Lahaul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh were shrouded in snow after the district received snowfall on Sunday. Tourists seemed delighted as Shimla experienced snowfall in the second week of December.
