Kashmiri Youth Turn Out in Droves for Army Recruitment Rally in Kashmir

In a remarkable display of enthusiasm and determination, thousands of Kashmiri youth gathered at an Indian Army recruitment rally held in the Gantmulla area of Baramulla district. Organized by the 161 Infantry Battalion Territorial Army, the event witnessed over 20,000 young aspirants vying for just 306 positions, underscoring the significant demand for employment opportunities in the region.

Despite the biting cold and challenging conditions, young men traveled long distances to reach the assembly ground before dawn, forming long queues in hopes of securing a place in the Indian Army. Many of these candidates are graduates and postgraduates, driven by a desire not only for employment but also to serve their nation with pride.

Shabir Ahmed, one of the hopefuls, expressed his frustration at the limited number of vacancies available. “We came for recruitment, but they are saying to go home today because there are too many candidates inside. It’s been five years since the last rally; we need more positions to tackle unemployment,” he said.

The atmosphere was charged with excitement as candidates shared their dreams and aspirations. Syed Rafiq Gillani, who completed his running test with flying colors, remarked, “I feel great. This is the result of my hard work over the past three years. I want to be a good citizen and serve my country.”

Munir Ahmed echoed similar sentiments, stating, “My dream is to join the Indian Army and serve my country.” Zubair Ahmed added, “These rallies provide hope for employment in a region struggling with joblessness.”

Another young man Riyaz Ahmed reflected on his lifelong ambition to join the army, saying, “I initially tried for the Agniveer but didn’t succeed. Today, I achieved my goal through hard work. I hope more rallies will be organized to help youth like us.”

The overwhelming turnout at the recruitment rally signals a changing mindset among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. Despite the backdrop of rising violence and terrorist activities in the region, these young individuals are resolutely choosing a path of service and dedication to their country.

Akhtar Ali, another candidate, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “I have had this passion since childhood. The management has been excellent, and I believe this will benefit many youths in the future.”

As these aspiring soldiers await their chance to serve, their collective determination reflects a hopeful vision for a brighter future—one where they can contribute positively to their community and nation.
