In a powerful display of unity and grief, candlelight marches were held across the Kashmir Valley today to condemn the brutal killing of a former army soldier in Kulgam. The attack, which also left his wife and niece injured, has sparked outrage among residents who are demanding justice and a decisive crackdown on terrorism.
In Sopore, hundreds of civil society members gathered on Tuesday evening, illuminating the streets with candles while holding placards that read “We Condemn Pakistan-Sponsored Terrorism.” The peaceful protest served as a poignant reminder of the community’s shared sorrow and anger over the senseless violence that continues to plague the region. Participants called for an end to the cycle of violence that has claimed countless innocent lives, emphasizing the urgent need for peace and harmony in Kashmir.

Similarly, residents of Handwara organized a candlelight march at Main Chowk, expressing their collective condemnation of the heinous act that claimed the life of the ex-serviceman. Protesters voiced their demands for strict action against the perpetrators and urged higher authorities to take decisive measures to eradicate terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

“We cannot accept such acts of violence in our society,” one demonstrator stated, echoing the sentiments of many who participated in the march. “We stand in solidarity with the victims and their families, and we call for justice.”
In Gund tehsil, locals also took to the streets to honor the fallen soldier, demonstrating their resolve to stand united against terrorism.
