New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Thursday arrested a stalker who allegedly attempted to kill a teenage girl by firing bullets at her in South Delhi’s Sangam Vihar on August 25.

The accused identified as Amanat Ali, who was absconding following the shooting incident, has now been apprehended by the Delhi Police.

The accused was arrested by the South District Police team, Delhi DCP Benita Mary Jaiker told news agency ANI.

The accused informed the police that the girl was in touch with him for two years through social media but she was not talking to him for the last 4-5 months.

According to reports, the accused along with his two associates, Bobby and Pawan, chased the 16-year-old girl while she was returning home in South Delhi’s Sangam Vihar area on August 25 and then fired a shot. The girl sustained gunshot injuries on her shoulder, informs police.

A case under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered in connection with the incident.

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) had also issued a notice to the city police on Friday, seeking an action-taken report in the matter.
