In a decisive response to the recent terror attack in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched an extensive operation resulting in the detention of over 150 individuals, including suspected terror associates and former Over Ground Workers (OGWs). The crackdown follows a harrowing incident on Monday in which terrorists targeted three civilians, leaving one dead and two others injured.
The attack occurred in the Behibagh area of Kulgam, where former Territorial Army soldier Manzoor Ahmad Wagay was shot at close range. Despite immediate medical attention, Wagay succumbed to his injuries, while his wife, Aaina Akhtar, 32, and their niece, Sania Hameed, 13, remain hospitalized but are reported to be stable.
A senior police official emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “Our operation is focused on identifying and apprehending individuals linked to terrorist networks. The detentions are crucial for uncovering the motives behind this attack and preventing future incidents.”
Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the Kulgam attack are underway, with those detained being interrogated for any connections to terror-related activities.
In light of these developments, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to convene a critical security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The meeting aims to reinforce the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and will include discussions with key figures such as Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, senior officials from the JK Police, the Indian Army, intelligence agencies and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
This review comes in the aftermath of the tragic attack on Wagay and his family, underscoring the urgent need for coordinated efforts among security agencies to combat terrorism effectively. At a previous meeting held on December 19, Shah had directed all security forces to enhance their collaborative strategies to eliminate terrorist threats in Jammu and Kashmir.
