With pressure mounting to capture absconding JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, wanted in sex abuse cases, the Karnataka government has requested the Ministry of External Affairs to cancel his diplomatic passport based on an arrest warrant, sources said.
Prajwal Revanna Fled To Germany
The JD(S) MP fled to Germany on a diplomatic passport as allegations emerged, following the release of pen drives containing hundreds of clips of the purported crimes.
A source stated, “The MEA has received a letter from the Karnataka government requesting the cancellation of MP Prajwal Revanna’s diplomatic passport. This request is currently being processed.”
Siddaramaiah Writes A Letter To PM Modi
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written a second letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging prompt and necessary actions to cancel Prajwal Revanna’s diplomatic passport.
He expressed disappointment that his previous letter had not been addressed, given the gravity of the situation. “I am writing again to highlight the serious accusations against Prajwal Revanna. Siddaramaiah expressed in his letter to the Prime Minister dated May 22 that these incidents had shocked the people of Karnataka and raised nationwide concern.
On Tuesday, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara stated that the state government had requested the Centre to cancel Prajwal Revanna’s diplomatic passport.
“A warrant has now been issued. Based on this warrant, a letter has been written indicating that the diplomatic passport needs to be cancelled,” he informed reporters.
Last Saturday, a special court for elected representatives issued an arrest warrant against Prajwal. The warrant was issued following an application by the Special Investigation Team against Prajwal and his father H D Revanna, who is currently out on conditional bail in a kidnapping case linked to the rape charges. Prajwal, the grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, faces allegations of allegedly forcing himself on women, as depicted in hundreds of videos sent by the SIT to the state’s Forensic Science Laboratory in Bengaluru. The Karnataka police insisted on the Interpol issuing a Blue Corner Notice to locate Prajwal.
