Karnataka Child Brutalized For Stealing A Pen: Locked In Ashram Room For 3 Days And Beaten

An inhumane incident has emerged from the Ramakrishna Ashram in Raichur, Karnataka. The Guruji of the ashram brutally beat a boy for stealing a pen and locked him in a dark room for three days. The boy, Tarun Kumar, suffered such severe beating that his eyes became swollen. Tarun is a student at a government school and was living in the ashram because of poverty. While playing with his classmates, he stole a pen, and his classmates reported this to Guruji.

After receiving the complaint, Guruji Venugopal of Ramakrishna Math brutally beat Tarun. Even though he is a young child, Tarun was locked in a dark room for three days. The incident was discovered when Tarun’s mother went to visit the Ramakrishna Ashram on Station Road in Raichur.

Tarun Kumar is currently being treated at a private hospital, where he has multiple injuries and severely swollen eyes. The incident happened under the jurisdiction of Raichur West Police Station, and the boy’s parents are concerned about his condition.

Children’s activist in Karnataka Sudarshan said, “We learned through media and helpline numbers that a boy named Tarun was attacked by the Swamiji of Ramakrishna Ashram, and the boy has been rescued. I spoke with the police inspector and sub-inspector about the incident and informed the officials of the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare.”

He added that an FIR has been filed against the accused, and they will protect the child through the child helpline and the Women and Child Welfare Department. They will also write to the child welfare officers about the issue and take necessary action against the person who harassed the child.

Sudarshan stated that the person who attacked the child will be punished under the Juvenile Justice Act and relevant IPC sections. The incident has impacted the child’s mental and physical well-being, and they will take the necessary action against the accused.

Tarun’s mother, Rupa, said, “My son, Tarun Kumar, is in third grade. My other son, Arun Kumar, is in fifth grade. I left both of them at the ashram. When I visited the ashram to see them, my older son, Arun, told me about how Tarun was attacked and had injuries on his face.”

She said this incident happened over a pen. The teacher accused my son of stealing a pen and said he could do something like this for a pen. It wasn’t really about stealing; my son just picked up a fallen pen and put it somewhere else. The teacher said that while I see it as a case about a pen, they see it as a future case of theft worth one lakh.

She further explained that on Saturday, another boy gave my son the teacher’s pen because he didn’t have one. On Sunday, when the teacher was looking for the pen, he found it with my son, and this entire issue erupted over a pen.

The child’s mother continued, “My son was attacked on Sunday, and we went to the ashram on Wednesday. This teacher doesn’t even allow parents to meet their children, but when we arrived, my elder son told me about the incident. The teacher refused to let me see my son but admitted to torturing him. He said he would allow a meeting in two weeks when my son would be fine. The teacher said he viewed the theft of this pen as equivalent to stealing Rs 1 lakh.”

The woman added that the teacher tortured her son so severely that people say he has been reborn. The teacher hit him with two belts, blindfolded him, and tied his hands. He also made cuts on my son’s legs and hands and continued beating him until midnight. The teacher even called five other boys to join in the beating.
