Karnataka: Six minors have been taken into custody after a video went viral on social media where two-wheelers of those children were spotted hoisting the Palestinian flag. The incident took place around 1 pm on Sunday on Dantaramakki Road in Chikkamagaluru town, Karnataka.

According to the police, three of the minors were on one two-wheeler, with a 17-year-old passenger holding and waving a Palestinian flag, while three others followed on another bike. They also shouted slogans for “free Palestine”.

“We detained all six boys in the case. They are minors and we have filed a case under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which includes sections dealing with communal harmony. Both bikes and the flag have been taken into possession,” said a senior police officer.

According to the boys, they were inspired when asked about it. They mentioned that they saw videos of a procession in Uttar Pradesh wherein people hoisted Palestinian flags. So, they wanted to create a similar Instagram reel.

Earlier, former BJP General Secretary and MLC CT Ravi had claimed that a rally was held on the previous day, where more than 20 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler, under a Palestinian flag, were brought without permission.

“I heard that some power figures tried to mediate for the perpetrators. More than 200 people gathered outside the police station, so it explained the situation and was sent out. I asked them to look deeper into the case and dissolve all the ties involved. The case must not be swept under the rug,” he said.
