Karnataka: Multiple Student Suicides Reported After Second PUC Exam Failures

In Karnataka, a tragic series of events unfolded following the announcement of the Second Pre-University (2nd PUC) exam results.

The April 8 announcement revealed that 73.45 percent students passed the Karnataka Second PU examination. Students who learned they failed their examinations due to this announcement have resorted to suicide leading to fatal results. More than five students in different districts of the state have actually taken their own lives due to failing to pass their examinations.

The village of Ramayannapalya in Doddaballapur saw Roopashree a teenager of eighteen years old die when she jumped into a well. The news about her results crushed Roopashree much as she had been residing with her grandmother. Police at the Doddaballapur Rural Police Station opened a formal case after finding the deceased body.

Various parts of the state have been affected by such fatal occurrences. Kavya Basappa Lamani from Hansabavi police station area in Haveri terminated her life by suicide after experiencing failure in the second PU exam.

The government college student Aishwarya located in Ontikoppal Mysore district took her own life. Vijayalakshmi Siraguppada died by suicide in Agasanur which belongs to Siraguppa taluk in Bellary district.

The collapse of Krupa who attended science at a Davangere-based private college led to her suicide after she failed the examination. An additional student in Bengaluru took their own life beside the very moment the exam results were set to be released.

Authorities tell students to avoid taking this drastic step since extra opportunities exist to take the tests again. The government established free testing opportunities during the second and third attempts so students should address their examinations without anxiety.
