New Delhi: As the Supreme Court is all set to hear the decades-old Karnataka-Maharashtra border dispute on Wednesday, security measure have been taken to avoid any untoward situation in the border district of Belagavi.

Karnataka Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Law and Order Alok Kumar held a meeting with state and Maharashtra police on Tuesday in the border town of Nippani in Belagavi district to put the security in place at border areas.

The Karnataka delegation was led by ADGP Law and Order Alok Kumar and included the Belagavi Police Commissioner, Belagavi Superintendent of Police, 2 Deputy Commissioners of Police, and 6 Deputy Superintendents of Police, as well as SPs from Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, and Bidar.

Meanwhile, from Maharashtra, Deputy SP Sawantwadi and two CPIs were present physically, and SPs from Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, and Sindhudurg were present virtually.

“A high-level inter-border coordination conference was organised before of the Supreme Court hearing on the Karnataka-Maharashtra border dispute to avoid any form of hostile atmosphere.” “Every effort will be made to maintain law and order on the ground,” said ADGP Alok Kumar.

Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai visited New Delhi and held meeting with senior advocate, in States legal panel, Mukul Ragtogi, in the wake of case coming before the Supreme court for hearing on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Chandrakant Patil and Shambhuraj Desai of Maharashtra have been appointed coordinating ministers for the Karnataka-Maharashtra boundary dispute.

On December 3, both ministers will travel to Belagavi, Karnataka. Belgaum, also known as Belagavi, is located in Karnataka but is claimed by Maharashtra.
