Karnataka Hijab Ban: Following hearings for 10 days, the Supreme Court Thursday reserved its verdict in a matter related to the Karnataka High Court judgement over wearing Hijab in educational institutions.

A bench of Justices Hemant Gupta and Sudhanshu Dhulia was hearing a batch of several petitions challenging the verdict of Karnataka HC which upheld the state’s ban on wearing Hijab in the academic institutions.

While submitting arguments in favour of the petitioners, senior lawyers Dushyant Dave and Salman Khurshid contended that the arguments over involvement of Popular Front of India (PFI) in the matter is wholly irrelevant that may cause prejudice.

Speaking the views of Karnataka, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta alleged that Muslim girls did not wear Hijab before 2021. However, it came as an aftermath of an agitation started by the PFI to create ‘social unrest’.

Mehta submitted the top court that the children were also made part of it.

Countering which, Dave said he ‘regrets’ on the argument which has been made without any pleadings.
