The High Court of Karnataka has directed the state police chief to circulate digitally the details of a woman, who for more than a decade has filed criminal cases against her former partners. This order by the court came after it quashed the criminal proceedings against one P.K. Vivek, a coffee planter from Sakleshpur and his family members. Vivek had contended that he was the victim of the woman’s tenth complaint.

Court’s Concern Over Repeated Complaints

Justice M. Nagaprasanna, who passed the order, voiced concern over repeated complaints by the woman, saying all of them were filed without sufficient evidence. “The police station where this complainant tries to register a crime should not do so without conducting a proper preliminary inquiry,” Justice Nagaprasanna said. The aim is to ensure that frivolous complaints are not registered, and innocent persons are not harassed.

Background Of The Case

The case pertains to P.K. Vivek, who met the complainant Deepika on August 28, 2022, in a business meeting in Mysuru. Deepika filed two complaints against him within a month of their meeting. Vivek produced documents to prove that Deepika had filed similar complaints against different men for the last ten years. The court noticed that Deepika was in the habit of sending complaints to the police against different men, alleging rape or some other kind of harassment.

Deepika’s History Of Complaints

The court went through Deepika’s complaints series of cases filed sans proof to prove them. The court observed that Deepika had filed complaints against several men in these years and that many of those complaints resulted in dismissal since she did not attend the court. ‘The complainant has harassed several persons by embroiling them in a prolonged trial for no valid reasons,’ Justice Nagaprasanna said.

High Court’s Directive Regarding Police Procedure

The recent court directive orders that the DGP and IGP should inform each police station about Deepika’s antecedents. The step would help the police first investigate her complaints properly before registering them, in case she files more complaints in the future. This order by the court shows the larger concern on ending the abusive use of the process and saving individuals from false implications.

Impact on Vivek And His Family

Because of such constant complaints, Vivek and his family underwent extreme harassment. The operative portion of this judgment accepts the fact that such allegations by Deepika are unfounded and are part of an emerging trend, which is disturbing. While the judgment absolves Vivek and his family, it also underlines the dire need for reform in the handling of cases of this nature.

Reactions And Future Steps
High court order of sending out copies of Deepika’s information ensures that such cases will not be repeated in the misuse of the processes of law. The court’s approach underlines the prime importance of the investigation, which is fair and comprehensive while handling criminal complaints.

The court, while ordering digital transmission regarding the history of the complainant, wants to save the career of an individual from false implications and see that a complaint is lodged and investigated with due diligence. This case is something that reminds people about integrity and where the transparency of court procedures seriously lackings.
