Karnataka Elections 2023: The Congress party released the first list of 124 candidates for the Karnataka Assembly elections. The first list includes the names of former CM Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar. The Election Commission has not yet announced the dates of the elections. The tenure of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly will be ended on May 24, 2023.
According to media reports, the Congress Central Election Committee held a meeting in Delhi and finalised the list of candidates on March 17. The first list was scheduled to be released on March 22, but was delayed reportedly due to confusion over Siddaramaiah’s constituency.

124 candidates named in first list
The Congress party released the list of 124 candidates even before the dates for the Karnataka assembly elections were announced. Former chief minister Siddaramaiah will contest from the Varuna assembly seat. The first list of candidates includes top leaders of the state and most of the sitting MLAs.

The oldest in the list of 124 candidates is 91-year-old Shamanuru Shivashankarappa, who has managed to get a ticket from Davanagere South. Congress veteran KH Muniyappa has got the ticket from Devanahalli assembly constituency. Karnataka Pradesh Congress President DK Shivakumar will contest from Kanakapura. Karnataka Congress working president Ramalinga Reddy will contest from BTM Layout and his daughter Sowmya Reddy will contest from Jayanagar in Bengaluru.
