A doctor was assaulted in Karnataka’s Vijayapura after a woman alleged that he inappropriately touched her during a scan.
Woman alleged doctor had inappropriately touched her
According to an NDTV report, the woman was pregnant and had gone for a scan at Vijayapura district hospital on April 9. She later reportedly told her husband that the doctor had inappropriately touched her during the scan process.
Woman’s husband assaulted the doctor
The woman’s husband got furious, and he and his friend barged into the hospital and thrashed the doctor, who is a postgraduate student of radiology. On the other hand, the doctor rejected the woman’s claim, stating that he was only doing his job.
Doctors staged a protest
The doctors staged a protest inside the hospital while demanding security for themselves. The doctors said the scan is not possible without touching the patient. The medical services were hit for a couple of hours due to the agitation.
The Vijayapura police launched a probe into the matter.
After woman’s death, Pune administration launched probe
In April’s first week, the Pune district administration launched a probe over the death of a woman, Tanisha Bhise, after she was allegedly refused admission by Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune over a demand of advance payment.
A relative of Tanisha Bhise alleged that the hospital authorities demanded a large sum of money from the victim’s family as advance payment.
An internal inquiry by Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital into the alleged refusal “to admit a pregnant woman over a Rs 10 lakh advance” termed the family’s complaint as “misleading”.
