Bengaluru: In order to fulfil another poll promise, the Congress government in Karnataka on Monday started the direct cash transfer for the Anna Bhagya Scheme to the eligible beneficiaries.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his Deputy DK Shivakumar along with other leaders initiated the scheme in an official ceremony in Bengaluru.

“The direct cash transfer for the Anna Bhagya scheme to the eligible beneficiaries will continue till the time we procure the rice,” said Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah.
According to the Karnataka government around 128 million cardholders will benefit from the DBT scheme. the government would transfer Rs 170 per person,which is equivalent to Rs 34 per Kg.
Earlier, the newly elected government alleged the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) led Union government for not fulfilling their demand for rice. The Siddaramaiah government then decided to transfer the fund directly to beneficiaries accounts so that they can buy rice by themselves.
Anna Bhagya Scheme
Anna Bhagya Scheme is one of the five poll promises. The Congress declared to give five kilograms of free rice per month to each family member who lives Below Poverty Line (BPL). The eligible beneficiaries have already been given 5 Kg rice per person by the Central government.
