‘Always abided by high command – we just had breakfast together,’ says DKS after meeting Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for a brief breakfast on Saturday morning. After the “power breakfast” meet, the two leaders held a joint press meet to discuss the ongoing power tussle in the state.

While addressing the media, DK Shivakumar said that they have always abided by the high command directives. “With the support of all of you, we have brought the Congress government and we are working as per our promise. The people of the state are giving their full support. We have to fulfill their wishes. We are working in that direction… whatever the high command says, we will follow that, and there is no group. Even now, we are working together. Whatever the CM said, I am with the CM. We are working together,” he said.

Amid the ongoing ‘leadership crisis’ in Karnataka over the alleged ‘rotational CM deal’, CM Siddaramaiah said that there are no differences between him & DKS, and the party is now eyeing the 2028 assembly elections. “Our agenda is the 2028 elections. Local body elections are important. We discussed them. We also discussed bringing back Congress in the 2028 elections. We discussed that we will go together. There are no differences between us, and there will be no differences in the future,” the Chief Minister said.

Siddaramaiah added, “Whatever decision the high command takes, both of us will obey. There are no differences between DK Shivakumar and me… They (BJP and JDS) are saying that no no-confidence motion will be moved. We will face it.”

The Chief Minister took a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal (Secular), stating that the two parties have a habit of making false allegations. “The BJP and JDS have made statements that they will bring a no-confidence motion. They are only 60, and the JDS is 18. They cannot match our numbers. We are 140. This is a futile exercise. We will confront their false allegations.”

The internal conflict between the Congress government in Karnataka over the change of power has been under discussion over the past two months. However, it escalated after November 20, when Siddaramaiah completed two and a half years in office. A high-stakes meeting between Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge is reportedly on the cards for November 30.
