Karnataka: Munirathna, a BJP MP from the RR Nagar constituency of Karnataka was arrested on Saturday on allegations of threatening to kill a contractor and making casteist remarks against Vokkaligas and Dalits.
An audio clip doing the rounds about him makes allegedly casteist slurs against Vokkaligas and Dalits and threatens to take away the contractor’s life has landed BJP MLA from RR Nagar in Karnataka, Munirathna, behind the bars. He was arrested in Nangali village near Mulbagal town in Kolar district.
Munirathna Arrested After Attempted Escape
Police claim that Munirathna was attempting to escape towards Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh. A woman from Karnataka has filed a complaint against him. She has provided them with her number, which Munirathna has been calling very frequently. Following his location through the phone, police captured him. Post his arrest, he was handed over to Bengaluru Police by Kolar police. He will be taken to court and further procedures will take place there.
Contractor Seeks Action From Karnataka CM
On Saturday, the contractor Cheluvaraju who had filed a police complaint against MLA Munirathna had a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and reported that no action was being taken on two FIRs filed against the BJP MLA from RR Nagar at Vyalikaval police station in Bengaluru.
Contractor Cheluvaraju met the Chief Minister in Bengaluru and submitted his plea for action to be taken against Munirathna. He told the Chief Minister that the police were not making any moves against the BJP MLA even after filing two FIRs and asked the CM to issue legal action. The CM assured him that legal action would be taken and protection given.
Munirathna’s Aides Also Booked As Contractor Alleges ₹20 Lakh Extortion Threat
Besides Munirathna, cases have been lodged against his personal assistant Vijaykumar, security personnel Abhishek and Vasanth Kumar. Contractor Cheluvaraju had earlier complained to Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda that he was being given protection. He alleged that Munirathna was demanding a sum of ₹20 lakh and threatened that if not paid, he would be dealt with the same fate as Renukaswamy.
