New Delhi: Amid an ongoing trend of changing parties in Karnataka ahead of Assembly elections, former Deputy Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran leader Laxman Savadi on Friday joined hands with Congress.
Savadi will be formally joining the grand-old party in the evening. This come a day after Laxman Savadi resigned as Legislative Council member and from the primary membership of the BJP after losing the Athani constituency ticket.
It is worth noting that the Karnataka Assembly polls are next month and several senior leaders have already changed allegience with their respective to another. The reason behind switching parties is a dissatisfaction over the ticket distribution.
Earlier in the day, the former deputy CM met Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief DK Shivakumar, Karnataka Congress in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala and former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah at the latter’s residence in Bengaluru.
A press conference has been called for at 2 PM, informed Surjewala. “Savadi will resign from his MLA post at 4 pm today. At 4.30 pm he will join the Congress. All of us here at the party, including the High Command, welcome Savadi,” he added.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar prompted to take dig at the saffron party saying that leaders have felt “humiliated” there.
“There is no condition. He feels that he has been humiliated. It is our duty to take such great leaders into the Congress Party,” said Karnataka Congress chief.
He also mentioned that there are 9-10 other leaders in the BJP who wants to switch to Congress but the party do not have space to accomodate them.
