Karnataka: A 65-year-old woman was allegedly raped by Irfan (25) in the premises of a government hospital in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district. According to police, the incident occurred around 2 am on Wednesday, August 21. The victim traveled from a village for medical treatment and decided to stay overnight at the hospital as it was late.
The accused, identified as 25-year-old Irfan, also at the hospital for treatment, found the woman alone and allegedly sexually assaulted her, the police said. The accused is a resident of Hyder Ali Nagar. The hospital staffs and others, upon hearing her cries for help, rushed to the scene. They apprehended Irfan before handing him over to the police.
Chikkaballapur SP Kushal Chouksey confirmed the incident, stating that the woman was in the hospital premises when she was raped. The accused has been arrested and is in police custody, the SP added.
SP Chouksey said that the assault took place on the campus, not within the hospital. A rape case has been registered under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The woman is currently receiving treatment at the hospital and further investigation into the case is ongoing.
This incident occurred amidst nationwide outrage following the rape and murder of a 31-year-old Kolkata trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical Hospital.
