The Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway on NH-27 is set for expansion to eight lanes, with the NHAI acquiring most of the 63 km stretch needed for this upgrade. Construction of the expressway, currently at 50% completion, aims for a June 2025 finish.
Presently, the 75 km journey from Kanpur to Lucknow takes four hours due to construction-related diversions and narrow roads causing significant traffic jams. The situation is worsened by trucks and cargo vehicles from Bundelkhand to Lucknow. NHAI officials state that upon completion, the expressway will reduce travel time to 35-45 minutes.
