Actress Ranya Rao’s Gold smuggling case: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 102.55 crore on Kannada Actress Ranya Rao, who was sentenced to jail in a gold smuggling case. Rao, also known as Harshavardhini Ranya, was arrested by the police for illegally smuggling gold at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport.
DRI officials had seized 14.8 kg of gold from the Kannada actress. She was sent to 14 days of judicial custody by an economic offences court. DRI investigations revealed that Ranya went to Dubai four times in about 15 days and smuggled gold. On September 2, Ranya and the other three accused were sent to jail. DRI issued a notice imposing a Rs 102.55 crore fine. According to officials, Ranya’s property can be confiscated if the fine is not paid within the stipulated time.

Who Is Ranya Rao?
33-year-old Ranya Rao is an Indian actress and model. She primarily works in the South Indian film industry. She made her acting debut in 2014 with the Kannada film Maanikya. Ranya hails from the Chikmagalur district of Karnataka. She completed her schooling in Bengaluru and holds an engineering degree from Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering.
Ranya is the stepdaughter of a senior IPS officer from Karnataka, K. Ramachandra Rao.
