Dangal In Julana: AAP Fields WWE Wrestler Kavita Dalal Against Vinesh Phogat

With the release of its fourth candidate list, AAP has fielded WWE wrestler Kavita Dalal in Julana who is set to contest against Vinesh Phogat.

AAP released its fourth candidates’ list on Wednesday wherein the names of a total of 21 candidates have been declared for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections 2024. In its latest list, the political party has picked candidates to contest against the biggies of Haryana including the current CM Nayab Singh Saini and Vinesh Phogat.

The party has announced the names of 61 candidates till now after deciding to go solo in the Haryana Assembly elections. Speculations were doing rounds on who will come to the fore against Phogat as the latter filed her nomination today. This list has certainly put a full stop to all such speculations as the Aam Aadmi Party has fielded wrestler Kavita Dalal against Vinesh Phogat in the Julana constituency.

Who is Kavita Dalal?

Kavita Dalal is an international wrestler and the first Indian professional female wrestler to wrestle in the WWE. Along with wrestling, Kavita has also been an international performer in weight-lifting. She won a gold medal in weight-lifting the 75-kilogram category at the 2016 South Asian Games.

While Vinesh Phogat has scripted history by being the first female wrestler to make it to the finals in the Olympic games, Kavita Dalal too is not a commoner.

Delving into Dalal’s life

Born on September 20, 1986, in a family in the Malvi village of Jind district, Kavita was one of five siblings in her family. She got married in 2009 and after giving birth to her first child in 2010, had decided to quit sports but her husband mentored her and supported her. After six years of her pregnancy, she bagged a gold medal in weight-lifting.

Vinesh Phogat made headlines for reasons more than just games. Newspapers across the world were inked by her pictures during her protest against the former WFI president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh. She was also vocal on contemporary issues like the farmer’s protest. On the other hand, Kavita Dalal remained focused on her career and training. This will be the electoral debut for both the athletes. Haryana is definitely going to witness a ‘dangal’ in Julana.
