Following his swearing-in, there was speculation that Mr. Nadda would resign from his position as BJP National President, which he assumed from current Union Home Minister Amit Shah in 2020.

Nevertheless, it now seems that Mr. Nadda will continue to hold the position of the BJP’s top organizational leader.

According to party regulations, the election of a National President occurs only after organizational elections have been conducted in 50 percent of all states, a process expected to span approximately six months.

Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress president, serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

In addition to JP Nadda, there are 11 other members of the Upper House who are part of the Union Council of Ministers.

During the 2024 General Elections, JP Nadda secured victory in the Bilaspur Lok Sabha constituency on a BJP ticket. He was appointed to oversee the Chemicals and Fertilizers portfolio in the Modi 3.0 cabinet.
