With heavy snowfall anticipated in the coming weeks, security agencies have ramped up their vigilance along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. Intelligence reports indicate a concerning surge in terrorist activity at newly established launch pads across the LoC in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK), as terrorist handlers aim to infiltrate armed militants into the Union Territory before winter weather renders mountain passes impassable.
The months of December and January are known for heavy snowfall that complicates movement through critical infiltration routes, particularly in the northern districts of Baramulla and Kupwara, as well as in Jammu’s Rajouri and Poonch regions. In light of this, intelligence agencies have detected increased preparations by Pakistan-based terror outfits to push militants into Indian territory.
In response to these alerts, security forces have implemented a robust protective grid along the LoC and are on high alert to thwart any potential infiltration attempts. Top sources from the army and police have assured that comprehensive measures are in place to neutralize any threats before they can reach deeper into the region.
“We are fully prepared to counter any infiltration attempts. Our forces are vigilant, and we have a strong operational strategy to address any challenges that may arise,” stated an army official.
In addition to bolstering defenses along the border, anti-terror operations have intensified within the Kashmir Valley. In a significant crackdown over the past 24 hours, joint forces have apprehended two terrorists and one Over Ground Worker (OGW) linked to terrorist activities in Baramulla and Tral.
Among those arrested was Showkat Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Naganad DH Pora Kulgam, who was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and other weaponry during an operation in Baramulla. Another individual, Irshad Ahmad Chopan from Lurgam Tral, affiliated with the proscribed terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, was also arrested with a pistol and live ammunition during a targeted operation based on specific intelligence. Similarly a terrorist hideout was busted in the Shopian area of South Kashmir during a search operations in the orchard area.
