J&K Assembly Elections 2024 Live Updates: Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up for the upcoming assembly elections. Ahead of the polls, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has released a notification, saying the publication of exit polls for the Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections will be prohibited.

According to the notification, the restriction will be effective from 7 am on September 18 until 6:30 pm on October 5. The notification further states that election-related content, including opinion polls or survey results, will be prohibited from broadcast in the 48-hour period before the end of voting. Elections will be held in three phases in Jammu & Kashmir starting September 18.

The BJP has removed senior leader and ex-former deputy CM Kavinder Gupta from the Bahu constituency (previously known as Gandhi Nagar) in its sixth list of candidates for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections released today.

No One Has The Courage To Bring Back Article 370: Says Defence Minister

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that despite the alliance between Congress and the National Conference, no one has the courage to bring back Article 370. He highlighted the transformation in Jammu and Kashmir, saying it has changed from a terrorism hub to a tourism hotspot. He also noted that many youths, who once carried weapons, are now using laptops and computers, and there have been no stone-pelting incidents since 2022. He emphasized that as long as BJP is in power, Article 370 will not be restored.

'I Sense A Conspiracy'

"... They bring in people from jails to contest against me. Had this been a one-time thing, it could have been ignored... But now when assembly elections were announced and I was declared as the NC candidate from Ganderbal, again I heard someone from prison is going to contest against me. This person has nothing to do with Ganderbal. He might not even be able to locate Ganderbal on a map... I sense a conspiracy in this...," says NC Vice President Omar Abdullah.
