The BJP has appointed four senior leaders to manage the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections and address internal issues. Former Jammu West MLA Sat Sharma will serve as the acting president of the J&K unit, as current president Ravindra Raina is busy with his own election campaign, following orders from BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda.

National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah, who had vowed not to contest until J&K’s statehood was restored, has now filed nominations for two seats. On September 5, he submitted papers for Budgam after filing for Ganderbal, his family’s traditional seat, a day earlier.
