After the major landslide in the district, of Wayanad, in Kerala, telecom companies stepped forward to repair communication systems in order to help the affected areas. Starting from Reliance Jio to Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and BSNL, a government-backed telecom company, all turned out at their best in supporting the impacted communities.
Initiative By Telecom Companies
Government telecom company BSNL has switched on 4G services in Chooramala and Mundakkai, areas in the grip of the landslide in Wayanad. The authorities have set up diesel generators so that the towers can run continuously in case there is a power cut. Fast internet connections would be provided to the district administration and Kerala Health Department’s toll-free numbers.
Jio has installed one more tower in the affected area to improve network coverage. Their network has also been extended to control rooms and relief camps to assist in carrying out rescue operations and distributing relief material.
