Monsoon showers led to a bridge guardrail collapse in Jharkhand, with concerns of negligence and corruption amid ongoing construction.

Jharkhand: Local reports indicated that Saturday evening marked the onset of the first monsoon showers. The rainfall caused a rise in the river’s water level, leading to the collapse of the guardrail on an under-construction bridge due to strong currents. Additionally, one of the bridge’s pillars was visibly tilted. Sources mentioned that around 8 PM, during the heavy downpour, the pillar began to lean. The collapsing guardrail generated a loud noise as it fell into the river, alarming residents in nearby homes.

Reports indicate that the Public Works Department, Giridih Path Pramandal, Jharkhand was overseeing the construction of a bridge valued at over five crore rupees, undertaken by Om Namah Shivay Construction. This development has sparked significant public outrage, with allegations pointing to corruption as the cause. Both the Public Works Department and other stakeholders are being held accountable for the incident, which is attributed to direct negligence by department officials.
