A Jharkhand BJP leader was shot dead in broad daylight in the Kanke area of Ranchi on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Anil Tiger. He was also a member of Zila Parishad.
The incident took place at 4 pm at Kanke Chowk. The leader was sitting at Thakur Hotel where the two assailants came on a bike and shot him in the head. The incident triggered panic among the locals.
The police officials were alerted by locals. The police immediately took Anil Tiger to a hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Later, the police swung into action to nab the killers. They held them after a few hours of manhunt. The police are not clear on the motive behind the incident, but they suspect that a land dispute could be the reason.
The locals gathered at Kanke Chowk and staged a protest while demanding justice in the matter.
The police have launched a thorough probe into the matter. A senior police officer confirmed the incident saying that details will come during the probe.
