The Noida International Airport (NIA), being developed in Jewar of Gautam Buddha Nagar, is ready to start operations by the end of this year. This greenfield project is being built in collaboration with Yamuna International Airport Private Limited under a public-private partnership. This will be the second international airport of NCR after the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) of Delhi, as reported by PTI.
The airport is located about 75 km from New Delhi and is seen as an important center in the aerial connectivity and logistics network of the region. The airport is likely to get operational post diwali, as per media reports.
When Will Flight Services Start?
Union Civil Aviation Minister K.K. Rammohan Naidu told the news agency PTI that the inauguration of the airport is proposed on 30 October 2025, and after that, flights will begin within 45 days. Initially, services will be available on 10 routes from here.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also said that commercial flights at the airport will start by the end of 2025.
The project, which started in 2019, has gone through the challenges of Covid-19 epidemic. Earlier, its operation was to start from September 2024. The first phase of this airport being developed in four stages has been completed, including a runway and a passenger terminal. This terminal is capable of handling 1.2 million passengers annually. When it is fully developed, this airport will be able to serve 7 crore passengers every year.
