New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Jaya Bachchan lashed out in the Rajya Sabha during a discussion was held over Women Reservation Bill. The actor-turned politician said, “Me chupchap sun rahi thi na? Ab Aap Suniye… (I was listening quitely all this time, right? Now you listen to me…”
Bachchan made the statement on Thursday during the special Parliament Session in the presence of Rajya Sabha speaker and Vice-President VP Dhankar.
Pointing out at the Rajya Sabha Speaker, Bachchan said humourously, “Your chair is better than this entire 7-star hotel, which swings like a swing.”
She said, “Sir, who are we to give reservation to women? We had courage so we came here. Our leaders had courage who brought us.”
The SP leader pointed out the reservation will be implemented by 2029. Until then, women will win and loose. However, the female candidates would only be given tickets on such seats where they loose.
She said, “all this drama should end.” Bachchan continued saying she remembered when the bill was introduced inRajya Sabha ealier and Sushma Swaraj and Vrinda Karat had given remarkable speech.
At that time, Jaya said, leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and CPI (M) hugged each other and were overjoyed by that. However, they abused SP for it but we did not protest. She said, there must be many scholars on your sides but nobody speaks when the time comes.
She continued and said nobody supported us then as they never do. As she was carrying on her speech, she was disrupted by someone that infuriated her.
Following that, Bachchan said, “I too will object if you will interrupt. I was sitting all this time. Please do not make any comment now.”
Jaya said, “You brought the bill and we are supporting it but let us speak. Do not comment in between.”
“These people always comment when someone says something and we do so, then they get angry” and looked at the speaker to ask “do you agree with that too?”
VP said, “I listen to both of the sides.”
