Japan PM visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japan counterpart Fumio Kishida discussed defence equipment and technology coorporaton, trade, health, digital partnership peaceful, stable and prosperous indo-pacific. Funio kishida called India an Indispensable partner and announced $75billion to boost Japan’s free and open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) policy. however, Ukraine again loomed large as Japan PM used his statement to target Russia.
Though he did not name China anywhere in his discussion over Indo-pacific, Kishida highlighted Ukraine war seven times and condemned Russian’s action in war saying Moscow’s aggression had ‘obliged ‘ the world to face the most fundamental challenge of defending peace. It is noteworthy that the Indian side was silent on the Ukraine issue but Kishida reminded Modi that this is not the era of war remark in media and Japan authorities said leaders of both the countries agreed any effort to unilaterally change the status quo anywhere in the world can not be condoned.
Both the countries has inked a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of Japanese Language Education in India. In a friendly gesture, Pm Modi gifted a sapling of Bal Bodhi tree to PM Kishida.

Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra briefed the talks between PM Modi and Japan PM. Kwatra said the leaders discuss how India, Japan and other like-minded nation work together to combat the challenges, particularly in the wider-expanse of Indo-Pacific.
He added, “Naturally, as part of those discussions, they spoke about the challenges that we face in the region. How India and Japan and other like-minded countries can work together to address those challenges and not just focus on challenges, but also focus on cooperation, particularly in the wider-expanse of Indo-Pacific.”
PM Modi said he and PM Kishida ave met several times in the last one year.

“And each time, I have felt his positivity and commitment towards India-Japan relations. And therefore, his visit today will be very useful to maintain the momentum of our cooperation,” he said.
