Jammu security forces have captured a pigeon carrying a threat note to blow up the Jammu Railway Station in the border area of RS Pura in Jammu district. After intercepting the cryptic message, police have amplified security in the region.
Previously, Pakistan had sent balloons, flags, and pigeons across to the Indian side of the International Border. But this is the first time a pigeon carrying a direct threat letter has been captured, officials said.
Security agencies have taken the matter seriously in light of prevailing threat perceptions and anti-India designs.
According to a PTI report, the pigeon, believed to have flown from Pakistan, was caught in the Katmaria region along the International Border at around 9 PM on August 18. Upon inspection, police noticed the bird was carrying a note that contained a message threatening to blow up Jammu Railway Station. A senior police officer confirmed this to PTI.
The report further stated that the message, written in Urdu and English, threatened to blow up the station with an IED and contained lines such as “Kashmir Freedom” and “The time has come.”
Security agencies are probing the matter to determine whether it was an act of mischief or part of a well-planned conspiracy. However, since police have intercepted such unorthodox inputs in the past as well, security has been increased in and around the station and tracks. The local police placed on high alert.
Security forces have also indicated that this could be a deliberate attempt to send a provocative message across the border.
