Kulgam, Jammu, And Kashmir: In a major successful operation of security forces, five terrorists have been killed in an encounter in the Kadder area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Security forces had said that a group of terrorists were trapped after suspicious activity was observed in the area. During the Cordon and search operation terrorists fired on security forces resulting in a gunbattle. So far in the operation five terrorists have been killed.
The Indian Army earlier said that based on specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a Joint Operation launched by IndianArmy & Jammu and Kashmir Police at Kader, Kulgam. Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate and heavy volume of fire. Own troops effectively retaliated. Operation is in progress.

Two security forces soldiers have been injured in the initial gunfight in the area. They have been evacuated and taken to the Army’s base hospital. Security forces are carrying out a massive search operation in the area.
DIG South Kashmir said that the terrorists killed in Kulgam gunfight are affiliated with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. Speaking to reporters, deputy inspector general of Police (DIG) south Kashmir Range, Javid Iqbal Matoo, said that five terrorists have been killed while two soldiers are wounded and their condition is stated to be stable.
He added that bodies of terrorists are being retrieved, and that they are probably affiliated with the HM outfit, but the exact details can be shared only after the operation ends.
Meanwhile top Police sources said that one of the killed terrorist has been identified as Hizbul Mujahideen’s longest-surviving terrorist, Farooq Nali, four other terrorists have been identified as Mushtaq Itoo, Irfan Lone, Adil Hajam, Yasir javed bhat.
As per police records Farooq Nali was involved in many terror related incidents. He was behind many attacks on civilians as well on security forces, a police officer said. His death is a big achievement for police and security forces, the officer added.
Security has now been put on high alert across South Kashmir districts including Kulgam, Shopian, Anantnag and Pulwama.
