Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been temporarily stopped because of a landslide in the Mehad area of Ramban. The landslide has blocked the road, and authorities are working to clear it. Drivers are advised to take alternative routes while the situation is being managed.
The weather in the region is very bad. Banihal’s mountains are covered in snow after yesterday’s snowfall. The minimum temperature there was 3°C, and the maximum temperature is expected to be 15°C.
Meanwhile, Bhaderwah is experiencing rainfall, with low clouds covering the city. The weather has made Doda look beautiful, with snow-covered mountains in the background while it rains.
Srinagar is also facing the extreme cold, with temperatures staying low.
A tourist from Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, CHVS Reddy, said, “We can’t stand because of the cold. We will never forget this place and will visit again with our family and friends. The people here in Kashmir are very friendly. Next time, we will come with our families.”
At the same time, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) started construction work for the 1.1-kilometer-long Bhimber Gali Tunnel on National Highway 144A. The first blast for the tunnel was done on Monday by Brigadier Neeraj Madan, Chief Engineer of Project Sampark. The BRO said, “The first blast for the Bhimber Gali Tunnel was done today by Brigadier Neeraj Madan. This project will save 10.8 km of travel time on the highway, improving the connection between Rajouri and Poonch for both civilians and the Army.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the Sonamarg Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the tunnel would greatly improve connectivity and tourism in the region. PM Modi praised the workers for their hard work and commitment to completing the project despite many challenges. He also expressed his sadness over the death of seven workers during the project.
PM Modi also mentioned that the Sonamarg Tunnel project began in 2015 after their government came to power. He was happy that the project was completed under their leadership.
